Diana Wallis MEP in Leeds to debate Britain's global role

12.17.57pm GMT Sun 28th Nov 2004

Leeds Liberal Democrat Euro MP, Diana Wallis, debated the topic 'Britain's role as a bridgehead between the EU and the US: myth or reality?' on Friday 26th November at 6pm in the Rupert Beckett Lecture Theatre, Leeds University.

The event was hosted by the Leeds University Café Babel Society (see below for more details) and it was the first 'Coffee Storming' debate on British soil.

Diana Wallis MEP said in advance of the debate, "I am very aware of the excellent work Café Babel does through its online current affairs website. I think its aim to go beyond national politics and media by being available online in six different languages is perhaps a way we will all look at news and current affairs in the not so distant future."

Note:

Café Babel Leeds is part of an umbrella organisation called Café Babel International. The Café Babel network is almost entirely composed of volunteers and currently present n 16 cities across Europe. It was set up in 2001 with aim of providing a forum for debate on European affairs via an online magazine (available at www.cafebabel.com)

Over the past years the Café Babel network has organised a series of 'Coffee Storming' debates in Paris, Brussels, Dublin, Berlin amongst others. It gives an opportunity for young people to discuss and debate possible solutions to some of the most challenging issues of our times.
