Responding to the publication of the European Commission's plans to cut the cost of using mobile phones abroad, local Lib Dem Euro MP, Diana Wallis, said:

"I think everybody has a story of how ludicrous the cost of receiving or calling from a mobile phone abroad has been become.

"The Commission's plans to cut the cost of using mobile phones abroad, will ensure that operators cannot charge unjustifiably high prices compared to those nationally. The mobile operators have got away with overcharging for too long.

"I hope that holidaymakers in the region will no longer be paying mobile phone bills larger than the cost of their holidays!"
