Local Euro MP welcomes European funding for endometriosis work11.06.46am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 11th May 2007
Local Euro MP, Diana Wallis, a long-time campaigner for greater awareness of endometriosis, has welcomed the news that, for the first-time ever, funding will be given for work in the field of endometriosis. Yesterday, 10th May, the Public Health Executive Agency of the European Union announced an approximately half a million pounds grant to a European coalition of universities and patient support organisations to improve awareness of endometriosis in Europe. Diana Wallis MEP, a former endometriosis sufferer herself, organised a seminar in the European Parliament in March this year which brought experts and sufferers together, was delighted with the news of the funding. She said: "We have done a lot of work over the years in getting endometriosis officially recognised by the European Union and I am delighted to see this has now paid off. "Hopefully, this historic grant will only be the beginning of serious funding into raising awareness of endometriosis, and to obtain investment for causal research into the disease. "So there is a still a long way to go but this is an excellent start!"
