The weekly travel to Brussels and (once a month to Strasbourg) is an unavoidable part of a MEPs work, given the location of the Parliament buildings. However local Euro Liberal Democrat MP, Diana Wallis, has decided to try to reduce her 'carbon footprint' by travelling to Brussels by train from her home in East Yorkshire.

Diana Wallis MEP said:

"With the new St. Pancras terminal opening last week as the new home for the Brussels-bound Eurostar, it makes a lot of sense to travel from my local station in Brough via Hull Trains to Kings Cross and then take a Eurostar to Brussels."

In fact Diana Wallis MEP completed the first journey on Monday morning catching the 6.37 Hull Train to Kings Cross and the 10.00 Eurostar to Brussels to be in her office by half past one.

Diana, said "it was great and will make a nice change from the plane. I need to calculate more specifically the carbon emissions in each journey but my instinct is that this was definitely the greener route."
